Has anyone been following this show? Some of the restored and/or active
diners are a slice of Americana worth seeing. I can feel my arteries
hardening every time I see this show. (blame the LCD for that.) The host is
funny and the locals haunting these places really add a lot character. |

He drove me nuts at first....but he grew on me. The places he
goes to look more inviting than those the Roadfood people
recommend.
After friends and I fell for Roadfood's recommendation of a
"butter burger" at Solly's in Milwaukee....I've kinda disregarded
Roadfood recommendations:
Look at it:

It's even worse, when it's on your plate. Imagine a bun so
sopped with slimy butter (not as hot as it should be) that
it's just slop.
At least Guy's recommendations aren't *that* artery-cloggery,
although frankly, lots of us in Utah are mystified by the worship
of SLC's Red Iguana.

I'm curious; any recommended places in the Bay Area? (If so, I'm going
to take a wild guess that one of my favorites, the Tennessee Grill in
the City, is one of them.)

We've enjoyed the show for quite awhile! I'm 89, so, I've traveled a
bit over the years and have eaten in a some of the places featured...
a couple here in the Phoenix area... Chino Bandido and Thee Pitt's
Again! One son comes over a couple of times a week and stops for
takeout at Chino Bandido... great "fresh" food... nothing "antique"
about it.

There's always conversation about him at rec.food.cooking. I liked
him, didn't like him, and now I really do like his hosting - he's
funny and original, and I think the Food Network did this one right.
He needs to hit a burger place here, and a tenderloin place in western
Iowa, and a Maid-Rite place in Marshalltown - then I'll be happy.
Maybe he should do some "state-wide" categories, one episode which
cover each state. Hey, Guy, are you listening?
