Do artists paint or draw master image in one medium...

Are there any artists who draw or paint a master image in one medium
(such as oil, watercolor, acrylic, computer, pencil crayon, or pastel)
as a guide as to what their print image will look like, before making
that print edition (such as serigraphy, stone lithography, woodblock,
etching, aquatint, mezzotint or drypoint?
