Here is an odd item I found: A 50th anniversary "gold" token for Manheim
Auctions. As it came in a protective plastic case, I've been trying to
determine whether it is some sort of gold-clad silver piece, or some
sort of actual gold piece, or whatever. I emailed the company, but no
answer yet.

Has anyone heard of this item, or has anyone an idea how I might find
out whether it has any legit value?

I couldn't find anything on the internet about it, and no signs one has
appeared on ebay in the last few months.

I googled "Manheim Auctions" and got hundreds of results.

It's obviously a token they gave out in 1995, for the 50th
anniversary of their business (which is clearly shown on the
item itself).

They're a used-car auto business. If you put that token in
a clunker, it's not going to raise the clunker's value.

I guess you could contact Manheim Auctions and ask
if they want to buy it.

I have never heard of them before today. And i tried a search for every
way to find mention of the token, but nothing came up. I'm hoping it
might be gold since it's pretty heavy, but i'm assuming it's clad and
not solid

Me too:

Results 1 - 10 of about 86,100 for manheim auctions

I guess $4,500 + $0 = $4,500, right?

Some clunkers are only $3,500 ;)

Speaking of cars and tokens, I took a test drive in a Sterling 825 auto back
when they were introduced in 1987. They send out invites to owners of BMWs,
etc.

The Sterling was a British car for the US market, a Rover based on an Acura
Legend drivetrain. It had an upscale interior with Wilton carpeting, Conolly
leather, etc, but little else to distinguish it. It did poorly and only
lasted a few years.

But... they gave out a 2 oz Sterling silver ingot in the shape of the car's
badge, sealed in a plastic sack. I came across it a few years back and it
sold quite well on eBay. The buyer, a silver collector, had never seen one
before.

Very cool! I took one of those (a couple of years old) on a
test drive in 1990. It was pretty inside, but even back then
seemed clunky. In fact, the Plymouth minivan I bought instead
was a hotrod in comparison ;)

Kris, you have to be one of very few people who have even heard of the
Sterling! I couldn't even find a photo of one.
