Uh-uh.
(whispers) I like Hannah Montana. It's funny. Ditto that iKarly
show. (back to normal voice) As for the other preteen comedies, I
tried watching them and yes they were bad. However the young kids eat
it up - it fits their mental capacity, so Disney has hit upon a
winning formula.
Live-action stars can also be trotted out and used to make money from
concerts - soemthing you can't do with Kim Possible. And Disney does
still make cartoons, albeit aimed at the toddler market (6 to 12 am
daily).

Not really. They can blame their parents, who won't let today's youth
watch anything other than Disney or Nickelodeon or Toon. The other
better channels are blocked or simply verboten. |

I remember, back before corporate afternoon syndication, when local
stations took care of after-school programming--
Which usually meant homegrown packages of Mighty Mouse, Casper, Popeye
and Monkees and Bewitched reruns.
....We watched 'em. Why? It was more of a mass-hypnosis thing, that
actually made you curious enough to *watch* a Mighty Mouse cartoon:
It was after six to eight punishing hours of school, and we needed an
audiovisual DRINK. Fast, cheap, and no questions asked.
That aspect of programming never changes, even if cable is the new
kids-syndicated sanctuary, and the low-number stations have been taken
over by Dr. Phil, Judge Judy and the trailer-park crowd.
Kids think is Hannah is "classic viewing" for the same reason they think
High School Musical invented musical theater: It's *in front of them*,
and they don't know their history.
They're not there to watch it for "quality", and to make them watch what
mugging Reagan-era Silver Spoons laughtrack-follies WE old-fogeys
suffered through in prime-time '83, that's making them pay for OUR
neurotic upbringings, and that's child abuse. Any way you slice it.

Their formula is that these shows are actually funny. Hokey, slapsticky,
but funny. Can't say that for many prime-time sitcoms, and the ones that
are seem to depend heavily on off-color jokes that the kids aren't ready
to understand.
Maybe I'm spoiled. I grew up with Jack Benny and Red Skelton. |

I think Wizard and The Suite Life on Deck are better than Hannah
myself,I'm also enjoying Phineas and Ferb as well. |

Isn't that what I said? They'd realize how poor the Disney/Nick
shows truly are, but they don't get exposure to the better shows on
the other channels. And that's the fault of the parents.

Agree. I wouldn't do that to a kid. |

Glad you brought that up. A lot of Japanese anime is made for kids, but
is amazingly more interesting than American-made cartoons -- so much so
that we have an American movement of grownups who enjoy it . My
explanation is that the Japanese have more respect for their kids. |
