Man, my tips are gonna be sore for days. I love pulling on huecos, makes me
feel studly to hang on one arm and dip some chalk. Like I'm Alan Watts or
somebody. Like I should be on one of those motivational posters. I'm talking
to myself again, aren't I?

Reminder to self...no posting 'til sober, no posting 'til sober...

'Course on a different note, I hooked up with an outdoor fotog for a while.
She caught me rappelling from some minor climb at the City of Rocks in
Idaho. The picture ended up in one of the gear magazines, back in the 90's.
So looking studly and hanging out 'Can' make you famous, even if nobody
knows who was in the picture...

Thanks, Unkown Rapper. I climbed R and X yestiday. I rarely do and when I
do, it makes me high as a kite. Rolling out of the rack and making a stiff
italian coffee this morning grounded me, tho. I'm good.

Could be worse. Ignore the mass media. You get wrapped in it like my
classmate from college John. He now edits the AAJ, felt he had the
climb the Eiger's North Face and make an IMAX movie in the process, and
write a book.

Tell me about it... After 4 years as the construction Medic for the t.v.
series Everwood I can relate to that...

Ratzzz...(I poor pity the porters that had to carry that IMAX camera up the
mountain, it ain't light...)

If you feel the need, try finding a running copy of ELIZA or "doctor".
Suspend reason and ignore all that has been written about it since Joel
Weizenbaum wrote it and just go with it like you were conversing with
another person.

I tried that, "she" abused me. I'd type "hello" and it'd respond with "look,
it's dumbo". I appreciate the advice, though.

Actually, for the area we did alright.

It was fun. lots of late nights and 16+ hr days, but it was steady and the

I know people who worked for Eastwood on Eiger Sanction.

Is this turning into a how to make a living as a climber thread?
Or merely fame?

Gotta put food on the table somehow, but with the IMAX thing in there it
kinda ties it all together...

I moved away from LA over 2 decades ago. One classmate briefly was a
noted early female Director at a time they were rarely. Other HS and
college classmates, teacher buddies/ex-students went into the business.
My old man had me in the Sons auxiliary to the American Legion post in
Hollywood (not for the business or people but because it had a Son
auxiliary: like Reagan was a member of that post before he switched to
Pacific Palisades). Occasionally I see friends ex-TAs etc. name go by
credits (Jeff joined Rob Reiner's organization for instance).

I know that climbers try to get into stunt work following social shifts
to more outdoor orientations (less success).

They used to be even bigger.

It took longer to make them smaller because
MacGillivary-Freeman (who started with surf films)
did such good aerial helo shoots that incentives to make
Imax cameras smaller got delayed.

IMAX as a film format is going to get a run for the money as we go digital.

Yeah serious scrounging hasn't appeared as a topic here yet because few
want to give their secrets away. It's true: On either side of the
social spectrum There lies a leisure class.

While rain slick is one thing, I would worry about lightning more.
I'm watching weather in CA and need to get out for the weekend myself.
Debating Southern Yosemite or maybe near Shasta.

Let's see... the last season we had James Earl Jones and Beau Bridges. We
Marcia Cross playing a minor character for a season, Scott Wolf and a few
that I forget. Ohhh and Steve McQueen, seriously... and he was actually
related to the real Steve. Like maybe a grandchild or something fairly
close...

Ya...I still watch the credits to see who the medic was and who the rest of
the crew was...
Never really met anyone before they were famous, yet, but who knows, I ain't
dead yet...

It just barely hit, This was pretty good, but the minute I turned my back
here comes the thunder. This is going on three weeks now. No way I'm
standing on top of any bump while this is going on.

I remember one particular trip to The Grand. We had just made the summit and
my brother started handing me back my gear as I sorted his and I swear we
were shooting sparks every time we handed a piece back to each
other...Needless to say we made a hasty retreat...

Addendum for Eugene:

Quote:

Missed that one...Mostly Salt Lake City, Utah. The Mountain scenes were done
at the many ski resorts we have. The water scenes or lake scenes were Utah
Lake, just south of us and the exterior shot of the houses were in our
Avenues District. A lot of turn of the century homes. We also set up a block
of exterior facades in Ogden, Utah, about forty-five minutes to an hour
north of Salt Lake, depending on traffic.

Was different than anything I've ever done before. Being the medic, I didn't
have a lot to do, so with my construction background I brought my tools in
and just fell in with the const. crew (much to the dismay of the union, I'm
sure...).

It's the LA area. I remember a roommate had a roommate before me whose
dad got an Emmy for writing a Columbo episode withe Patrick McGooan.
Now friends on the periphery at Pixar and PDI get them.

I was going to work on a roof 2 weekends ago. This weekend degenerated
to just a short bike tour. I had to take a climbing partner to airport
for a Juneau flight and help another friend with his Robogames project.
I did scope ouut other talking plans.

It's a common location. I had clear weather when I first summited.
