Markedly higher poll figures for McCain clearly show--at this point--
that his choice of Sarah Palin was a brilliant political move. She
may slip badly and become a liability, but right now she has energized
the Republican religious base, is appealing to women, has added
tremendous interest to the bland McCain candidacy, and has transformed
the momentum of the campaign. She is sexy, energetic, and speaks very
well. Her biography and family are appealing. She is extremely right
wing on Fundamentalist issues and has thereby given some props to
wishy washy McCain. She may not be the reformer that she claims, but
she is certainly more of a reformer than the Democratic opposition.
It is indeed possible that Palin will win the election for McCain and
the Republicans. I am not saying this would be a good thing.
