That depends on your local TV station(s) surely?

Just checked BBC:

06 Sep Opening Ceremony - 4h 25m

Thereafter a one-hour round up of events every day.

Fanfare? No.

TV coverage? I seem to recall NBC airing a 2 or 3-hour special of
highlights on a weekend afternoon a few months after the fact (it's
still quicker than the turnaround between the event and the airing of
the Ironman Triathlon).

Here's NBC's press release about their coverage:

http://www.nbcumv.com/sports/release_detail.nbc/sports-20080825000000-universalsportsbri.html

Is "Universal Sports TV" a cable/satellite channel? I haven't
heard of it before. No indication of how long the Oct. 18th
show on NBC will be.

CBC has the opening ceremony scheduled for Sat., Sept. 6th,
so that will be a same-day tape delay. I then see a 1.5-hour
paralympics program the following Saturday. Oddly, the Saturday
after that doesn't show any more coverage.

It's both a cable TV channel (formerly known as World Championship
Sports Network) and an online "broadcast" site
(www.universalsports.com). However, I am unaware of any cable or
satellite systers that actually carry it.

Yeah, I saw the mention of the website in the press release,
but was curious about the TV channel part of the service.
Thanks for confirming that it exists!

I just found a list of where it's carried:

http://www.universalsports.tv/Universal_Sports_on_TV.html

No wonder you haven't run across it! It's only carried in
a handful of markets. Okay, granted, they include the two
largest markets in the country, but not much else.

I got distracted by the market's Black Week.

http://en.paralympic.beijing2008.cn/index.shtml

Anyway it seems China got twice as many medals then Britan. US was a
distant third. No wonder NBC had no coverage at all.

Not just NBC. Every major US media has no coverage. It is all censored
by the US Government. US Government do not want its citizen to hear
about bad news. Only good news.

So explain why every political commercial describes not the good
things about a candidate but the bad things about the candidate's
opponent.

Other networks don't show the Paralympics probably because they might
be included with NBC's sole rights to broadcast the Olympics in the
USA.

If it's anything like last time, there will be a 2 or 3-hour
"highlights" show a few months from now (the same way NBC feels they
have to wait months before showing each year's Ironman Triathlon).

There is a reason NBC - or anybody else in the USA, for that matter -
does not pay much attention to the Paralympics; most people in the USA
are in one of four groups:
(a) "The what?"
(b) "You mean the Special Olympics?" (which is something entirely
different, and I have heard newscasters describe the Paralympics as a
competition "where you don't get a medal just for competing")
(c) People who feel sorry for the athletes - "they might have been
good enough for the 'real' Olympics, if not for..."
(d) People who think that since they weren't good enough for the
Olympics, then why bother watching them - after all, you don't show
the Olympic swimming races for 9th-16th place, do you?
(Yes, there is a group (e) people who understand that these are
legitimate athletes and enjoy watching them compete, but there are
also people who enjoy, say, women's (field) hockey, yet none of the
networks - or ESPN, for that matter - bother showing even the national
university-level championship in that sport.)

Remember that television networks in the USA are private businesses -
if NBC thinks that the third round of a golf tournament, or the finals
of a women's beach volleyball tournament, will generate more income in
commercials than the Paralympics, then golf and volleyball is what it
will show.

But the whole world is showing it. There is no excuse. You could show
it on the internet.
At least show the Medal list.
And you can list by number of bronze first too......just like in the
Olmypic.

For whatever strange reason, most USA medal lists show it by total
medals.  I have even seen lists of "unofficial winners of the
Olympics" determined by which country won the most medals.

Hey, stop using facts and reason! These fellas are convinced that it's
all a massive conspiracy against China by the evil USA and they ain't
gonna let no steenkin' facts get in their way!
