What is the best way to break up a fight?
Is there a 'technique'?
Of course you need to consider your own safety,
if you get in the middle... you'd like to avoid:

i) If it's 2 men pugging.
ii) If one is assaulting with a knife or club.

Sam
Start urinating on the fighters.
Just shout: ARE YOU CRAZY...?? HE'S GOT AIDS???
That tends to sober up people rapidly

Sam
If two men are fighting and both are willing and able to do so, I
assume any intervention on my part would be unwelcome.
If it's an innocent being beaten up by a thug, different story.

ok, so what is your 'breakup' maneuver, in that case?
I haven't tried anything like that since school days...
it's one of those things, like first aid, that everyone
should know...

I agree. I was young, and healthy and remember a couple guys who got in
each other's faces. One was a pizza guy, a worker in a pizza restaurant,
a tough looking guy. And a customer, another tough looking guy. And they
got in each others faces, and they were two tough customers, absolutely
fearless and scary and they both decided to take it outside.
And I don't mean where it could be broken up, but down in a gully where
they'd really get to finish it between them. I watched and didn't dare
interfere. Either one might've knocked some sense into me had I dared
interefere.
Or if anyone would have interfered. No one interfered.
And they fought and fought and fought, and hit hard and many times and
well, and they seemed so relaxed as if they'd both done this many times.
They were scary and they were good at their work. I can't remember who
won. I don't know why... you'd think that would be in my memory, but it
isn't. I just remember they fought hard, and long and seemingly
fearlessly and it was scary. I might have turned and walked away before
it was finished. Probably did. I didn't want either too lose.
They were good. And none of my business to even think about walking between.
