Just saw a few minutes of NBC national news.
The atmosphere just looks so disgusting. I guess the "media buzz"
that the Olympics organizers are trying to spin is that this is mostly
humidity.
Well whatever ... perhaps humidity is a big factor but it sure looks
somewhere between dangerous and toxic. The poor US biking team took a
lot of heat for wearing facemasks at the airport. Who wouldn't want
to try to protect themselves?
Work has been just crazy this summer so I haven't been staying up on
it but I thought I heard a while ago that some of the top runners in
the world are opting out of competing to not risk their health. Is
this really happening to many of the runners or are the national
organizations twisting arms to get the athletes over there? |

If there have been others the press is holding back and I doubt that
I know the Chinese were closing some of the factories around the
city(apparently they make lots of Vitamin C that comes here and some
neurotics were wondering if it would create a shortage, ala gas) and
even toying with cloud seeding to cleanse the air. I don't know if
either of these worked.
