Hi all,

Here is a list of some artists and songs that were believed to be The
Beatles, but a little bit of research proves otherwise:

"L.S. Bumble Bee" (Decca) - Issued in 1967 by the label that turned down the
Beatles, this is a novelty record that is a send up of psychedelic rock with
the lead vocals sounding uncannily like John Lennon. It is in fact Dudley
Moore with instrumental backing by Peter Cook.

"We Are The Moles" (Parlophone) - Some people believe that this is the
Beatles under a psyeudonym because it was released in 1968 even though the
act stated in the press that if the record was a hit their real identity
would be revealed. Even though it wasn't, a few years later the real act
was found out to be Simon Dupree & The Big Sound (who later became Gentle
Giant).

"People Say" (London). Credited simply to "John & Paul" and issued in 1965
at the peak of the Beatles fame, this song doesn't even sound like them but
it still crops up on many bootleg albums.

"Have You Heard The Word?" (Beacon). The artists were known as Fut, and
rumours abounded in the press that after the Beatles split, John Lennon
recorded this song with the Bee Gees. It was found to be false, and the
true identity of this band is still unknown.

The biggest omission from my perspective is the BeeGees. The first few
singles from them that were released in the US were thought by many to
be the Beatles, and a considerable number of DJs insinuated as much.

I've heard this song before and did assume, for a couple of moments
that it was the Beatles. I was fooled into thinking that it was them
until I listened to another song by Gentle Giant two years later
called "Pantagruel's nativity", which didn't have any attributes to
the Beatles except the complex lyrics. The band's interest in medieval
music always was a negative for me.

Very Beatlish.- Hide quoted text -

Wow it's good isn't it?!

The middle bit where he goes "Who do you think you are girl?" sounds
very like JL......(Catch you with another man it's the end ...little
girl)...there's also the "Making me sad" which is the same as a lyric
from HDN LP isn't it?

There there's the Oooooohs! Very good. Who were they? Maybe I should
check out Wikipaedophile.

Danny

Wow! What a great discovery for you, Danny!

Yeah, that's one to enjoy for a while now that you have found it.

I don't know "We Are the Moles", but Simon Dupree and The Big Sound's
other hit, "Kites" (an excellent record) sounds quite a bit like Gentle
Giant, mostly because of Derek Schuman's distinctive voice. You
wouldn't mistake it for The Beatles.

Me love Gentle Giant.

Yes. I know what you mean. That is an odd "guitar solo" isn't it.

As far as I know, the Knickerbockers were a one hit wonder.

They had another song "One Track Mind" that almost made the top 40. It's
pretty good and still sounds something like The Beatles, though he's not as
obviously trying to do a John Lennon impression on this one.

Thanks for the info. When I have a chance, I'll try to track down "One
Track Mind."
