The trainer has been taking Peter up a few notches on the hill work...
doing circles on the hill and also galloping up the hill. Man I'll bet
he loved that! I can't do circles when I get him back but I can gallop
him up the powerline easement. I will look forward to that.

This has been improving his canter which has been, for lack of a better
description, "like a draft horse." He still has not recovered his
canter completely but it's coming back. He tends to be grounded, not up
in the withers, and heavy but he will come lighter on his feet and add
some suspension when asked. I got somewhere with that tonight but there
is further to go. I think it's just a strength thing... nothing more
galloping won't cure!

My trainer said that second is just under the surface and he can be at
second level for short periods. In my lesson tonite, I tried a 10-m
circle just to see and he followed my seat around in about a 12-m
circle. We lost some impulsion but he pulled it out in balance. Ten-m
circles were always his forte.

And on the "easy when correct, hard/impossible when incorrect" front,
the turn on the haunches (TOH) are finally coming. I can't do this work
too much because it taxes my brain. But we got a nice, mostly correct
TOH with just opening my inside shoulder and little else. Horses are
amazing (as are certain rehab trainers).

You ever make it out to PDX, I'll put you up on Miss Mocha and you'll
*really* get turn on the haunches.

Might want to do it in Western, though. Though I *do* have a grab
strap on the English saddle. Wink

Thanks but if she does anything resembling Pete's spin when I redirected
him from rearing, I'll be observing from the ground immediately
afterwards. :)

These are WALK TOHs and that's the way I like them.

Way to go.

I'm thinking maybe the 10 metre circles might be getting a tad boring for
The Pancake at this point. Taking him out in the world is a really, really
good thing. You can still do all the training you are accustomed to doing,
but you do it while you ride him out and about in the world. Does anybody at
your barn trailer out to trails?
