This is a post about the shooting of Nonkululeko the hippo, that used
to wander down the North Coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa. She
often used to swim in the sea, rather unusual behaviour for hippos.
She eventually wondered into an area just north of the Durban Metro
area, where she was killed by "Conservation" officials.
Here is a link to the original story about her

On both Tuesday, July 8 and Thursday, July 10, ARA (Animal Rights
Africa) was alerted to the presence of Durban Metro officials trying
to shoot the hippo (After giving KZN wildlife until the 28 July to
relocate Nonkululeko)
And then.... at 3am on Tuesday (July 15) Morning Nonkululeko the
wandering HERBIVORE was killed in Verulam (Durban) after claims that
Nonkululeko had killed a man on Saturday night.
After the postmortem, there was still NO evidence that Nonkululeko had
killed the man (even if it had - still no reason to kill)
The conservation policies of South Africa are flawed and unethical.
Something needs to be done.
As soon as Nonkululeko was found, and they noticed that she was
stressed by the people around her, wildlife authorities could have
moved her to the more comfortable and safe environment - They were not
given this opportunity!!!
Ezemvelo KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife (EKZNW) had made an agreement with
Durban metro to have Nonkululeko relocated by the 28 July.
KILLING IS NOT THE SOLUTION.
We needs to put our heads together and come up with a way for these
people NOT to get away with committing this atrocity!
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can
change the world. Indeed, It is the only thing that ever has.”-
Margaret Mead
