So last month we did our annual three day, two nite back country
ride. It was a new route for us but there was much talk of the "sink-
hole" feature.
I thought EVERYONE knew why the "sink-hole" as it is called, was such
an extraordinary feature. I had seen pictures of it and was REALLY
looking forward to seeing it in real life. It is a natural
formation. A "hole" that features a 250 ft waterfalls! They have a
rope set up so you can climb to the bottom and reach the bottom of the
falls. So far this summer two couples have gotten engaged at the
falls. I was pumped to see it in person!
Two hours into our ride we came across a decent clearing with well
posted signs pointing to the sink-hole. Sadly, having never been
there before AND having left the trail guides in our dust our little
group were a tad confused.
I moved Sox towards the sinkhole with 4 or 5 folks following us but
the trail petered out. I turned to N. behind me riding a Newfoundland
Pony and asked him if wanted to try taking the pony in a bit farther.
Bless his heart, off he went and came back to tell us it was a dead
end. A bit bewildered, we continued on.
When we reached our spot for the nite we were all standing around
wondering how we'd managed to miss the sink-hole when N. piped up and
said "yup it was too bad that damned waterfalls was in the way"!!!
A trip to the "sink-hole" is on the books for another time this
summer, LOL
