When my daughter got married almost three years ago, she asked me to
do the Pachelbel...A piece I actually detest for its ubiquity. I tried
to beg off saying it usually is done with three fiddles and some sort
of bass, but being a dutiful Dad, I said I would look for the sheet
music to see if it was available for solo violin and keyboard.

When I went to my local sheet music store I saw that such arrangements
are literally available for all instruments from A to Z (Alto Sax to
Zither). So, I played it when the wedding party went up the aisle to
the altar, put my fiddle down, changed from my "music" glasses to my
regular glasses, went to the back end of our church had a boutonierre
pinned on (the violin would have crushed it) and marched my daughter
up to the altar as was my fatherly duties to "give" her away. [Give
her away Hell, this was a done deal! She lived with the guy for a year
and didn't get married until she was 37.]

I seem to remember that at some chamber music camp several years ago,
we play some clever variations on "Happy Birthday" for string quartet
in which each variation was in the style of some composer e.g Mozart,
Beethoven, Brahms, Schoenberg etc.
