So, Rain has been long lining for about a week and a half. She's going
really well--transitions, change of directions, past the Boogey Woods,
leg yielding, yada yada. So today Michelle was working her in the
'someday will be a footed arena, currently very flat shale spot. In one
corner is a pile of screenings, and on another side is a bank. Rain
worked up and down the bank at walk and trot, then Michelle took her
over and pointed her at the screenings mound. Rain was puzzled by the
mini mountain, then sort of cut along the side of it, walking on the
edge. When she came about her circle and back to it, she clambered on it
and started pawing, then slithered down the side and continued. All was
well until Michelle sent her over the far side of it--her outside long
line slithered over the pile with a demonic hissing, then as she scooted
it scooped up a bunch of gravel screenings and sling shot them into her
butt. Clamp and scoot! Bolt! ACK!

So we did that until she just trudged along, ignoring the noise and thus
not shooting herself with screenings buckshot.

She really did work very well. The current thinking is that I climb on
Monday.

Oh my time does fly. Seems like yesterday she was born.
I'm bringing Thor into town (literally the barn is IN town) for a
trial august 1st, he will be here for a month. Hopefully his poor
brain will adapt to the living conditions of being inner city so to
speak.. I hope so he has been to far away for me to see for a
year or so, I miss him horribly.

Good thoughts to you for riding day. It's one of my favorite things
to start the young ones under saddle. I miss it :)

INdeed. I can't believe Doc is in his 20s, or Moonlight her late teens,
or that Belles will be 10 next year. Sheesh!!!!!!!!

I like it too. I sat on her last year, but of course this will be a bit
more than that.

He wants to be there. We shall see . . . I think what Michelle has in
mind is that we do a work session, quit when she is going well, and then
I basically re-back her, sit there a few minutes, maybe flex a little
right, a little left, take a few steps, and get off. That's MY thinking,
LOL, at any rate.
