I heard a strange thing the other morning. The local talk back show
acknowledged Ringo's birthday.
Talking about his drumming and where he stood/stands with other well
knowns.(Copeland,Paice,Moon etc....)
This Dj said that John Lennon was asked if Ringo was the best drummer in
the world.
JL replied "He isn't even the best drummer in the band".The DJ went on to
mention George being a good drummer. I know macca can beat the skin but...
I had never heard this before and wondered if anyone else has.
Or was this guy just beating his own?
Cheers Aich. |

I'm hardly seeing any posts through Giggle groups, so ten people may
have already responded to this, but anyway, that is one of the most
frequently misinterpreted quotes. It was Lennon knocking McCartney's
opinion of his own drumming, not a swipe at Ringo at all. Re-read it
that way and it's pretty funny. Anyway, Lennon's also on record as
saying that he thought Ringo was one of the best rock and roll
drummers, if not the best. |

I've heard recently that George did play drums..and that he was
jamming with somebody before his death, and playing lead a lot better
than usual. George was then
questioned about why he didn't play like that on his recordings?
George's reply was that it was Clapton's thing, to play as he was
playing..and that he already had
his own style of playing. Sorry, I can't provide you with a source to
back up what I've written. |

If John said this, he was kidding. He often spoke very highly about
Ringo and Ringo joined him on a few projects.
At times John did work with other drummers on his albums. One drummer
(I forget now who . . . Andy white?) said when he would work with John
and ask for guidance regarding how John wanted the drums, John
sometimes would say "Play it like Ringo." |

Paul has called Ringo the greatest drummer of all time and ranked
Keith Moon second and John Bonham third.
Yay Paul! |
