I was riding by a Harley dealer on the other side of town today and
decided to stop in and look at the 2008 Buell Ulysses XT. You never
know when a 13 year old bike will die, and I want to be prepared.
A salesman approaches me, sees me holding my helmet, and the first
thing out of his mouth is, "do you want to take a test ride?" I tell
him I'm not seriously looking to buy, so he guilts me and says, "that's
all right, if you ride, I get to ride!" So much for the question about
dealers and test rides.
As for the ride itself, I won't bother you with details. Let's just
say I loved everything about it except the extreme heat under my right
thigh.

Who in the hell names a bike based on Greek literature? That is
downright borderline gay.
What's next? The Buell Kirk XT or something weird like that? The only
time I've seen such a weird name is in collections of servers, where they
might name they "Kirk", "Spock", etc. or "Apollo", "Athena", etc.
"Ulysses" does not belong on a motorcycle.
That was named by the Marketing Manager that used to be the Harley event
manager that had Elton John as the Headliner Act at the 100th year
annicersary in 2003. He was demoted to a Buell Marketing Manager and named
the bike Ulysses. Totally within character for sure.
Fair enough.
Did you ever notice that military aircraft get great names, like "Tomcat",
"Hornet", "Warthog", "Eagle", etc.?
You won't find them named things like "Daisy" or "Snowflake".
Well, theres:
B-25 "Mitchell"
B-62 "Snark"
B-65 "Atlas"
C-10 "Robin"
C-18 "Monomail"
C-21 "Dolphin" (also the C-26)
C-70 "Nightingale"
EC-135 "Looking Glass"
P-26 "Peashooter"
T-35 "Buckaroo"
T-37 "Tweet"

Yeah, we all know that classical education is the first stage to sucking
men's
penises in strange bathrooms. Hell, even knowing that "Ullysses" comes
from
Greek literature is already kinda gay.
To my own credit, I had to Google "Ulysses" to be sure of its origin.
Hopefully that means I'm safe in strange bathrooms. |
