My mom saw the ad for a CD with chant music, but actually she only
HEARD the music. She's normally not carried away by music and in fact
tends to be critical of it. She told me about it today. She said as
soon as she started hearing it she automatically closed her eyes and
thought she'd like to listen to it forever. It sent her into a state
of meditation and she felt couldnt open her eyes long enough to see
the tv screen to see how to order the CD! She doesnt remember what
channel she saw it on, but it was likely BBC, History, Discovery
Channel, or NGeo. It consisted of only male voices, but not a massive
choir size group -- no instrumentation remembered, and probably in a
foreign language. Does anyone know the name of this CD or has anyone
seen the ad so she can look for it? Thank you for any answers. Sherry |

There was a story on NPR this afternoon about some new chant recording
that's just hit the pop charts in Europe: this time it's an Austrian
Cistercian monastery (but their spokesman was interviewed by telephone
from Berlin) where they're not going to make the mistake the Spanish
one did that went pop 15 years ago. No concerts, no "performances"
anywhere. You can find the story at www.npr.org, look under "Weekend
All Things Considered." |

They were the beneficiaries and then the victims of a short-term craze. Such
is the world of pop. They probably consider themselves well out of it.
