Seems I have some bobcats causing me a few problems.
Saw 1 of them just as it grabbed 1 of our ducks and when we did a head
count
when putting up the chickens we were missing a few of those also.

So, what's the easiest and most effective way of getting them ?
Will they fall for a live trap baited with something ?
Can I call them in with a varmit call ?

Best time of day for them to show up ?

Yesterdays bobcat was around 3:30 in the afternoon and came within 40
yards or so
of the house to snatch the duck and I had left the rifle down stairs
so the bobcat was
gone when I finally got back upstairs and out the door. Now I have a
rifle and/or shotgun
by all the doors. Silly me, just bought a new savage .22 mark ii the
day before the bobcat
showed.

I can pretty much guess which pasture they will be cutting thru to get
up to the
chicken coop area. It's kind of overgrown and isn't being used
currently. No activity
so keep it scared off and thats the pasture it came out of
yesterday. I would love to
go out and bush hog it but the ground is so saturated and the pasture
is real steep, it
would be real iffy to be on the tractor.

A couple of years ago some Texas A&M students did a bobcat survey in our

area. They used long live traps with two compartments. Put a live
chicken in the back compartment (with feed and water), and a good strong
petition between the two compartments so the cat couldn't get to the
chicken and the front compartment acted as the trap. This seemed to work
really well, but keep in mind that the chicken must be fed and watered
and kept in the shade!! Someone said that young roosters were better
bait, because they crowed early in the morning and tended to attract the
cats. Makes sense.

We knew there were several cats in the area - like they figured maybe a
half a dozen and were surprised when they caught about three times that
many over a period of time!

I would find out what your fish and game regulations are in this situation.
I expect you can shopot them to protect livestock but it's better to know
for sure.

I like that sounds of that trap. Turns out my live trap isn't going
to be
big enough for most bobcats in the area.
