If rubbing mating mandarins in my face wasn't bad enough? Shame on
you.

Raja Ampat is consolation for selling my soul and going back to the
corporate world for a year... :)

I am actually not too excited about that mandarin shot. The
background looks like shit... unfortunately, I had to rely on a very
wide depth of field in order to get the fish in focus. And as it
turned out, it wasnt that hard to see them mating - there were atleast
5-6 pairs around. The hard part was getting a clear area to shoot,
without other photographers.

Sounds like you still beat your wife.

It looks like I'll be able to make it out to Lembeh et al. even if go
almost broke. I just found out that Continental is leaving Sky Team
and merging with Star Alliance, which means that all those miles I
earned by selling my soul will finally pay off by enabling me to fly
first class on Singapore at least once before I die. If I'm gonna go
all the way to Singapore, might as well make a side trip to Lembeh,
eh?

Watch out, after 3 years Singapore Airlines considers expired miles already
expired...

Are you going to try to squeeze in Raja Ampat?  A week in Misool is
$1000 or so, all inclusive.  All it will cost you is a flight from
Manado.  And since you are there, you might as well.... Smile

After selling my soul, I'm only able to lease it back for short
periods of time, a week or two at most. Then the devil, in the form
of bloodsucking employees, demands my return to the underworld. I
keep telling myself that I'm going to switch to an automated payroll
system one of these days, but then I'd have no excuse to return and I
might end up on some deserted island in the Andaman Sea.

On the other hand, now that Continental has introduced a Million Mile
permanent elite status program, I have incentive to make the trip as
often as possible. At only 280,000 "lifetime flight miles" with
Continental, I still have a long way to go. But if I can eke out
12,000 miles per Indonesia round trip, I'll get my status after only
60 trips. If make the trip twice a year, I'll be a youthful 70 upon
my anointment, hopefully finally retired so I can take the time to
travel right.

Bleh.  Fucking United wiped out 300k miles I had with them without
warning me.   Bastards.

It's not clear yet how closely United and Continental will align short
of actually merging, but so far Continental keeps all earned miles
available so long as you keep feeding the kitty at least every 18
months. That, of course, is always subject to change: "Miles
currently have no expiry date; however, Continental Airlines reserves
the right to impose expiry limits or terminate the OnePass program,
thus terminating your ability to claim rewards."
