So this is one of the Camp Lo guys doing the Cherrywine thing?? Not
that it's bad - kind of like old school D.U. meets Camp Lo with a lot
of Cherrywine is all.
I am actually one f the few that liked that Ish LP. |

No... I'm not sure... just sound EXACTLY like GEEchie don or CHIBA or
whichever it sounds like. And yeah.. sort of... the Cherrywine is
really drugged out - I guess Ish was on a serious coke binge when he
recorded that so it's not as fun as this... but interesting and dark
when I'm in the mood for it (Cherrywine...) This (Hanif...) will get
another play in my earbuds... which says a lot - as I don't replay
that much that often. |

Whatever did I do to deserve this?
Today's bargain bin purchases: "Curtis" by 50 Cent,
"Doctor's Advocate" by The Game and "Eardrum"
by Talib Kweli. Okay, three of rmhh's most hated,
but underground?
I stay out of discussions on everyone from El-P
to CunninLynguists but still get lumped together
with this 'Luca' person. Tsk.
Tell me about it...
Actually, I think you were one of the first who called me a backpacker
on here. Or my sigs, at least.
Ironically, I just today made my first real attempt at getting into
"Reasonable Doubt." I saw parts of a documentary on one of the BBCs last
night called "Classic Albums" that covered Jay's debut.
I think Natty and I may be crossing on the backpacker chart.

This was a great docu but I found that some of the rappers/producers were
all over Jay's dick...
Found it funny how all the producers except Jaz-O were explaining their
beats in the lab with Jay present while Jaz-O is interviewed elsewhere with
Jay no where to be found. |

Rod is a good beatsmith... taking equal parts RZA and Doom and coming
up with something his own. The vocals are alright, don't offend my
ears like some backpacker ish. I guess my anti backpack bias limits
me sometimes. You can flame me now Luca and Matt and the other
'underground' heads on here.
I consider myself very open to underground stuff but I'm never really sure
what falls into that category (and am totally clueless on the "backpacker"
differentiation!)
My definition is basically anyone whose music video (if they ever made one)
wouldn't make it onto any of the music channels on Australian cable TV -
this would include cats like Brother Ali and MURS.
Is this a fair definition or are those two guys listed getting too many
props to be considered underground?
I will trawl through my 2008 purchases and come up with some
recommendations for you... |

No offense taken. I wonder if the Jansport crowd still
exists on the fan side. Maybe the walls have been torn
down?
