This event is not just for wannabe callers; its for anyone excited
about doing a whole lot of square dancing at big public dances,
workshops, and infamous all-night music and dance parties. Its an
intense weekend, but intense like a high school kegger! Okay, maybe
that's not the best comparison. I can guarantee you'll be tired and
sooo happy by Sunday afternoon. Larry Edelman is a legendary, maybe
THE legendary, old-time square dance caller in this country. I've been
out in a square when he was calling where I felt like I was
levitating... Dang. Is that hyperbole? No! Its true! Larry is going to
take Portland by storm, so don't miss out on any of it. Read below and

Registration is now open for Dare to be Square - West, 2008, a
squaredance callers' and dancers' weekend held October 9-12, in
Portland, Oregon.
This year, we will be featuring nationally acclaimed caller, Larry
Edelman, along with our local favorite, Bill Martin. Portland's
Foghorn Stringband and Seattle's Queen City Bulldogs will supply the

NOTE ABOUT COST: Register before September 2, 2008 for the "Early
Bird" rate of $100. After September 2, 2008, registration is $130.
Final registration deadline is October 1st, 2008. This "All-Weekend
Pass" includes the Friday and Saturday public dances, two days of
workshops and dancing, lunch during Friday and Saturday workshops, the
Saturday night participants' dinner, the Sunday potluck brunch, and
the Sunday family dance. We do not want anyone to be deterred because
of lack of funds, please contact us so we can work something out!
WORK TRADE AND VOLUNTEERING: We have several volunteer jobs and some
work trade options. Please let us know if you are interested in
learning more.
PORTLAND LOCALS: We need your help in supporting our out of town
guests. Please email us if you can help out with hosting and/or
transportation, regardless of whether or not you are purchasing an
All-Weekend Pass.
