Yes, theres an ATT school down the street, but it charges way more(we
charge 70 a month for 365 days a year access and if you can pass the
test and want to fight for us, you can opt to pay us only a portion of
your winnings and no monthly fee at all) so we get the poorer and the
guys who think gi's are gay, and the racists, and if you are a
wrestler we dont make you do guard for 5 years before you can
fight.and we let guys spar MMA day one.And when a kid tried our club
whod been at att for a bit and said "the instructer there said you
guys basically just threw guys down and punched him in the face, and
heres where to learn just that kinda fighting" i said..."exactly, well
said.and here i was thinking they didnt like us."
and i guess we are in a poorer area, so guys wanna fight to get paid,
not to be van damme.and we got a sweet scary looking cage, its bigger
and better than the one the WEC uses, i am happy to say after having
rolled in that, but still it's a cage.and we dont care about style, we
have no real syllubus i just say "heres a takedown, now we do a few
armbars, now heres a cool move i saw at naga yesterday..ok thats done,
now we roll for 8 rounds 4 minutes, then we do 4 rounds mma and go
home...oh its your first day? yeah well all you gotta know is to
tap..now heres a 5-0 mma fighter to spar with.Rules? well, do to him
whatever you are comfortable with him doing to you".i tried running a
commercial bjj type gym, but its work, and wusses quit in a couple
months even if you coddle them.so fuck it, we just look to the just
escaped mental patient market.
its funny cause some biker chick comes in last week with her 14 year
old girl, she sez "she wants to learn grappling" and she starts to
leave, theres just like 5 of us in this class, 4 have fought pro, age
from 22-39 and she sez "ill be back to get you in two hours honey" and
i was thinking.what a crazy lady, i wouldnt let me neice anywhere near
the guys i train.let alone daughter.let alone if i didnt even know the
guys there.we have a large amount of prison guard members and little
time goes by between one saying "yeah, so the guy i rolled with
friday...yeah your new star, yeha well i know him from..." and they
need say no more.
whats weird about mma is this
you get cops, prison guards, wrestlers, criminals and oddly...fight
nerds.Thats is to say those that arent hardcore killers or athletes
wanting to make money are comic book store types who i guess wanna be
batman.and they GET GOOD.Cause they are smart.and very honest and
loyal people.plus with no pussy options they got plently of time to
train.
Do you enjoy their company?
yes, very much.im weird and like to be alone a ton, dont hang with
them much, but its really more that i work every day and fight night
or grappling thing every other weekend between weighins, cornering and
what not you are with a few team members all day.so you are together
so much that it really aint needed to hang.the ones my age are married
with kids, the younger ones i just aint got much in common with cept
fighting.but yeah i like em all.even the bad criminals.i mean i got
one guy whos fought on tv who is the craziest most violent person i
ever met and totally unstable.but i swear to go when someone fucked me
over is buisness he offered to kill them for me.and he was totally
serious.he had it all worked out.and that kinda friendship is deep.i
mean i fiought him in the ring toe to toe so many times you cant help
be close.weirdly close, yet i am scared out with him, like a bar or
something.i mean at any moment he may go mental and do something
putting him away forever, and i dont wanna go down with him.i mean its
hard to know what to do when a friend of yours goes up to a girl
sitting beside a big jacked guy and sez "why are you with limp dick
here when you could be with me?" i mean the guys almost always chicken
out, but when one doesnt i dont wanna be on the side of a guy whos
pure evil in a fight.i mean it aint moral.yet hed kill someone for me,
so id feel honor bound.
but yeah i like almost everyone whos a member quite alot, only one guy
i can think of i dont, cause he pays every month so i dont wanna toss
him, yet for the 3rd time i gotta remind him that he cannot go to
class wearing the same clothes as the night before if he didnt wash
them.that he smells so fukcing godaweful though i roll every day with
big gross sweaty guys..rolling with him disgusts me.right now i do not
like this guy for putting me in that position. i dont mind punching
people i dont know but telling someone, anyone..they smell bad just
sucks.
and thanks for asking, as i like to talk about myself.not in person
really, but online i think fills the roll Dr Pnewski filled for me
every tuesday thru my teens. |

I'll let you in on a secret. Other MA folks think MMA/BJJ folks are
weird. They say thinks like, "Well, we were rolling and he started with a
Wizzer and transitioned to double underhooks but I took an overhook then
later there was a single that turned into a double but and he tried a

Seems to work reasonably well. But anyway, it's not *only* about results.
It's also about being able to form a connection with your culture and your
"cultural past."
see thats my point.reasonable people lift to get strong.
No. Reasonable people lift certain things in a certain way to get a
certain kind of strength which is widely believed helps them with some
things such as grappling or getting chicks.
Classical "Physical Culture" advocates honestly believe that similar (or
at least very good) results in strength can be gained by using these
"older methods." They are satisfied that they can get "decent strength"
but beyond that, they believe that it enhances other aspects of their
strength not well addressed by common Weight Lifting methods, such as
"muscular stamina" (which is different from cardio endurance). This is
particularly true, in my estimation, for such things as "Indian Club" work
(which I admit, I do not do). It greatly builds the muscles and stamina
which are useful for holding and using weapons. Further, as I said, there
is an emotional connection for many. Sometimes it's the connection they
feel to their cultural history. Sometimes it's just a draw to what seems
"exotic."
Nevertheless, I agree with you partially: Modern Weight Lifting methods
excel at improving strength. The best in history, really. Pinnacle of
modern achievement. However, it has to be done *RIGHT*. And that ain't
easy or intuitive. A person really needs a weight lifting coach, or at
least some semi-professional to teach them the basics of how to safely
perform their lifts, what lifts to do, what order, progression, stacking,
routine, circuit, rotation, etc. In my estimation, one of the things that
most (certainly not all!) classic "Physical Culture" workouts do is
present a method of gaining reasonably good amounts of strength and
muscular endurance in a safe and intuitive way. (I will caveat that there
are a very few out there that, in my estimation, are every bit as
dangerous and likely to cause injury as weight lifting improperly -
usually in the "transitional" time period as Physical Culture was
beginning to embrace more modern Weight Lifting and Stretching ideas.)

spreading pig guts on the floor to see if its gonna rain.and

<Shrug> There are lunatics everywhere. I don't know what to tell ya.
What I can say is that using classic Physical Culture techniques (what we
sometimes think of as lifting weird stuff in odd ways) can have good
results, unexpected results, address areas which aren't as well addressed
by the modern lifting science (because few people even care about
producing those sort of results anymore), and can be useful (sometimes to
some people). Maybe there are ways of doing it better, but often they
just aren't in the offering. I mean, really, what's the weigh-lifting
routine recommended by modern science for someone who's practicing 18th c.

Of local MMA shows like Combat Zone and Reality Fighting? No.I got
guys who are like 3-0 who train twice a week with 3 kids and must work
60 hours a week who would probably defend their titles successfully
from him.
Im talking about a particular 20 year old who joined my school after a
tour of iraq who did have a boxing and wrestling background(and
torturing animals to death) and who then did 5 years of mma with us
between prison stints.
Not some guy with some boxing but who started other stuff at the age
of 32.Someone like that can never be world class.I started training in
my 20's and kimbo is a much better athlete than i am (not saying much)
i could have never been world class starting so late, even as a kid
probably i couldnt but in my 20s? thats ABSURD.And he started in his
30's.How in the hell is he EVER gonna learn to avoid a guy who
training sambo since he was a boy like arlovski from throwing him
down? and who has MORE experience boxing than he is and who is a
better athlete. How can he ever have a chance to be better than him?
silly.

pnewski. my childhood headshrinker.
What's his diagnosis?
Her.Her diagnonis.God i miss Pnewski.I never actually asked her
diagnonis. But risperdal, paxil, depacote among others. So it musta been
interesting.Never needed it though, stopped taking it and never noticed
a thing except i could ride a bike again without falling of every 100
yards or so.which is what got me realising that sciencetology has a
point.Which is that the world was created by a wizard who lived on
jupiter. |
