#From The Washington DC Police web site

http://mpdc.dc.gov/mpdc/cwp/view.asp?a=1237&q=547431&pm=1

The first part has been distributed but the FAQs below it haven't. The only
part that makes any real concessions is: "What will you do about residents
who already own handguns despite the handgun ban?
The District government will establish an amnesty program under which they
can register their handguns without fear of prosecution for having possessed
a handgun in violation of District law. Of course, the program will not
protect anyone who committed a separate crime under District or Federal law
with that handgun"

Also if the citizens cannot have semi-automatics why should the police. I
strongly believe the police should be armed but I cannot recall any place
the constitution allows arms for arming police. I believe the concept of a
police department was never anticipated when the constitution was written. I
believe the founders would be appalled that such a thing would be neceesary.

True about not having cops in the Founding Fathers' times. But the FF's
also didn't trust or want a standing army, thinking it to be the fount
of tyranny. One can only wonder how a new constitution could be written
to keep us safe given the realities of secret police, treasonous
political parties, etc.

I never thought I would see the police wear combat boots/pants tucked
in with full automatic/silenced weapons in a town of 120,000 people in
Tx. I thought that method of dress might cause local folks to
associate them with the gestapo from ww2. Guess what!! They are here!!
But then I never thought a WASP male would be a minority in Tx! We
are!! I don't mind being a minority but let's keep 'em legal
residents. Maybe noBama, or maybe mas or manos mcCain will enforce
border control...No Chance! Ask for the "We're Screwed 08" bumper
sticker or demand a "none of the above" ballot. Sorry, getting off my
soap box....I don't think anyone can defeat this country but US and it
is happening NOW doublequick!!

Police forces are subject to the rule and regulation of civilian
elected governments. Not holding direct popular votes on police
policy does not mean that "Cops make their own [sic] rules".
