Howdy All,
We had been stomping around for an hour without even seeing a jack
when things got interesting. I had my 3 male Salukis with me. Chime, the
fat old lady has been limping most the week so she stayed home. Also
along was the pit mix and the Aussie cattle dog. We were on one of the
old runways. To the left a strip of brush and on the other side of that
was an open field. To the right is a big area of heavy brush. Aaba
breaks into a run,I look down the runway and there is a jack going left
to right, Neezer follows. Normally they wouldn't give chase but this is
the first jack soooooo off they go. Jack goes into brush then Aaba then
Neezer. I wait. Then I see Neezer come out of the brush further down the
line. Then about half way between, Aaba comes flying out of the brush at
a real rapid pace. He is looking over his shoulder (this means one
thing) when a coyote comes out. Aaba is going across right to left with
his friend close behind. Neezer sees what is going on and he starts
running, but before he gets close a second coyote has come out of the
brush and was in the chase. Second coyote didn't see Neezer so he kept
in the chase with Neezer getting in behind him. Now it's dog, coyote,
coyote, dog. Aaba turns toward me with coyote still following. Second
coyote realises he has company and circles back around toward the heavy
brush they came from with Neezer following. Meanwhile Aaba is coming
fast with his buddy finally seeing me and stopping, then heading back to
the heavy stuff to the right. Just when this coyote gets to the heavy
stuff a jack pops out of there and is running along the edge back toward
us with the coyote following. Aaba sees jack and he runs at the jack
head on who decides it is time to turn into the heavy stuff and let the
2 canines figure things out. Both stop about 50' apart, look at each
other and part ways. Neezer decides to come back a few minutes later
from his adventures. We survive another encounter.
