Wenger, who has been at the Euro 2008, said in an interview that he
went with the checkbook ready to buy some players as opportunities
arose, but that he was going to use the checkbook to fatten up the
contracts of the players he already had. Is he going to change his
policy? I think the prospect of losing Hleb and Adebayor has woken him
up to a not so nice prospect: having to buy replacements for two
perfectly good players who are essential to his scheme. Barça is after
both, and I don't think Wenger wants to lose either. One player Wenger
has apparently been interested is Mallorca's Güiza, who would not be
very expensive and might provide some firepower in case Adebayor does
desert the cause.
