I called the police departments (5/13/2008) for each of these cities to
get some commentary regarding their city ordinances and recent state law
changes regarding carrying concealed w/ permit in their jurisdictions.

Boulder City (police department, police officer)
She indicated that the city ordinance prohibits the carrying of a
concealed weapon, regardless of permit. The weapon must be stored (in a
case), unloaded -- the official response. However, she said that she
(and all officers) know realize that the city ordinance conflicts with
state law, and therefore the unofficial comment is that if you are
legally and lawfully carrying concealed (with permit), there won't be a
problem. I asked her if she encounters this situation, and she said
'all the time' and that she had never issued a citation.

North Las Vegas (police department, records office)
She said that if you had a permit for CCW, there was no problem
traveling through their jurisdiction w/ a concealed weapon, legally and
lawfully carried. If you don't have a permit, restrictions are similar
to those of BC (weapon in case, unloaded, magazine removed).

I realize that this is all unofficial and shouldn't necessarily be
relied upon. Official policy for BC is clear (see city ordinances), yet
contradictory w/ state law (next steps would be to have the city council
make necessary ordinance changes), and I neglected to get a link to
official policy from NLV.

As bad as your destination may be, it's better than your current location.

Don't sweat it. Nevada is basically gun-friendly. The individual towns and
counties are gradually accepting that the Legislature meant what it said.
Read further down in the postings about Virginia City. They are taking
action to repeal their conflicting firearms ordinances. The City of Fallon
hasn't officially repealed their ordinances, but the City Attorney has sent
a formal letter to the PD informing them that those city laws are null and
void because they are in violation with state statutes and are not to be
enforced. Eventually the Vegas metroplex will have to fall in line with the
rest of the state.

All Clark County CCW applications are handled by the Las Vegas Metropolitan
Police Department. More info here:
http://www.lvmpd.com/permits/firearms_concealed.html .
They also process Curio and Relics FFLS.

Because the incidents are examples of overzealous gun control attempts, and
I had hoped to get away from that by moving. However.....as pointed out by
someone else.....NV beats the hell out of CA for being gun friendly.

The way that I see it is that gun control is decreasing.

I've found NV to be a very gun-friendly state -- open carry,
straightforward CCW, and lots of places to shoot, both in-town and
out-of-town.

Anecdotally, I believe this to be true as well.

Most laws being passed are to extend CHL, or open carry, or to remove
egregious gun control laws, or to add related self-defense laws such as
the Castle Doctrine.

There are exceptions such as Kalifornia.

# I've found NV to be a very gun-friendly state -- open carry,
# straightforward CCW, and lots of places to shoot, both in-town and
# out-of-town.

NV likely needs a strong open carry group like the ones in Virginia
and Pennsylvania (presuming they don't have one quite so organized
which I BELIEVE to be the case but could be wrong.)

Likely NV really has had good policies so the motivation for such
groups to become activists has been small, while in VA and PA
there has been a true need for activists to remind everyone, especially
the cops, that these actions are legal --by the law abiding.

On the other hand, flooding the Vegas area with legal enthusiastic gun
owners could be beneficial. There must be thousands there already. They
just need to get organized and start some political action committees to
throw the rascals out of power. The new gun park should help get them
together socially and help them form some pressure groups.

What are you talking about? I live in LV, and gun owners are more than
welcome here.

That's great news. In politics you really do have to be the sqeaky wheel.
I hope we see even more participation for next year's session. Maybe we can
get even more progress than last year. Keeping my fingers crossed.

# There were at least two orgs from Vegas that testified during the Bill

Was Silver State Shooting Sport Association one of the organizations. I was
a member but time kept me from doing much besides taking my kid to their
shoots.
