The Bay Area English Regency Society (BAERS)
is pleased to present
a dance party June 13, 2008 in Palo Alto
Dance like Jane Austen - enjoy music and dances from her lifetime at our
casual-dress dance party. (This dance party will focus on dances for the
Great Regency Shipwreck Ball, so will reach somewhat outside Our Jane's
lifespan.)
(The Bay Area English Regency Society sponsors informal (casual dress) dance
parties at St. Mark's Episcopal Church (600 Colorado Avenue, a block and a half
West of Middlefield, in Palo Alto) on the second Friday of each month (except
January, August, and December).
Admission $8. All dances taught or prompted, usually by Alan Winston (an
excellent beginner-friendly caller who has led country dancing in 10 states
and two countries).
Newcomers welcome, no experience necessary, no partners required - the custom
in the late 1700s was was to change partners frequently - live music. Casual
dress. Wear shoes you can dance in. Doors open at 7:45; dancing begins at
8:00 and continues (with a mid-evening break) until 10:30. Some light
refreshments are provided; contributed refreshments are welcome.
Here's the Palo Alto Weekly's story and slide show on our dance party in
