Hello All,
I recently purchased a Remington Model 700 ADL 30-06 new out of the box, for under $300.00!
To find out it's been sitting in the store for over 5 years....
It had the most out of the box accuracy that I have seen, but the last bullet loaded in the rifle jams,
the magazine "ADL Grade" doesn't push up the rear of the bullet far enough for the bolt to make contact. What can be done to alleviate this problem? I have read other owners are having the same problem with the ADL magazine, is it a design flaw?
Luckily it's still under a 2 year warranty, waiting for the free shipping label to mail to factory for repair... Will this be an ongoing problems? Is the only way to alleviate this problem is to upgrade to a BDL stock and magazine?
Thanks....... |

If it works OK with one less round I'd leave it alone... it may never shoot
well again after a trip back to the factory! Seriously, you may never need
that many shots so why sweat it... I generally hunt with single shot rifles
and never feel under gunned...

So for seven bucks and 1/2 an hour I'd try this first..

If that’s not quite right look here:

If you aren't up to changing the spring (and maybe fitting the
follower) or think a new rifle should work correctly out of the box
(as I do) I'd send it back to the factory for service. That
establishes a problem with the factory about that particular rifle and
Remington will make it right.
I have no fear of sending a rifle back to the factory for service. To
think that they will "ruin" it is absurd. I've sent rifles and
pistols back for service (just due to wear and age) and been treated
well by every manufacturer. Remington, Browning, Winchester,
Springfield, S&W, (the old, old Colt) and Kimber.
No problems. |

Thanks for all your help, I pulled the spring and moved it back as far as it
would go on the magazine follower.
This created more tension to the rear of the magazine, now it cycles every
shell.
Now the hardest part of all, waiting for moose and deer season.

`No problems.
On the other hand, I and a number of my associates have had less than good
outcomes with warranty work... including findings by the largest US
manufacturer that 8 MOA is acceptable accuracy for their rifles so they
wouldn't even look at it. I find that most problems are easily taken care of
though in a few cases I drove over to Gun Parts (Numrich) and picked up new
parts. It was quicker and less hassle to just fix the stuff myself... I had
a couple guns come back from S&W that needed major parts replacements due to
manufacturing defects that were excellent, but another one came back with
what could be termed a cob job repair--buggered screw heads, the side of the
front sight filed off at an angle, scratches on the side plate. There are no
certainties...
Re the OPs issue, even when I carry a repeater the magazine generally is
loaded with no more than two rounds as I've never needed more than one for a
lethal shot on whitetails. Given the accuracy cited by the OP I'd think he
will not need more than one round either... he'll probably end up with three
left in the magazine after reloading one "just in case."

I'd sooner send a firearm back to the factory than a meal back to a
kitchen in a restaurant. |
