COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio House of Representatives may vote Wednesday on
H.B. 446, which will change the animal control law and affect all dog
owners.
A vote is not on the agenda and the bill has not cleared the House Local
and Municipal Government and Urban Revitalization Committee. However,
legislative sources have reported that an attempt may be made to sneak the
bill onto the House floor for a vote.
If you have not done so, please contact your legislator immediately and
ask him or her to vote “no” on H.B. 446. Since the vote may be held on
Wednesday, it is important to write, email and/or phone immediately
Contact information for all representatives can be found at
http://www.house.state.oh.us/jsps/Representatives.jsp . If you don't know
the name of your representative, you can fill in your zip code+ four and
get it.
This bill is seriously flawed. It will at least double license fees for
people who have kennel licenses, allow activists to steal dogs by
licensing
them, remove the 30-day waiting period for buying a license for people who
buy a new dog or move into the state with a dog, prohibit breeders and
other owners from giving their own rabies shots, and require dogs to wear
license tags everywhere except in the owners home (only the house, not the
property or the kennel) unless they have a written veterinary exemption.
The high license fees serve the animal rights cause, by attempting to make
it too
expensive to breed dogs.
The American Sporting Dog Alliance represents owners, hobby breeders and
professionals who work with breeds of dogs that are used for hunting. We
