Hi
My mom had a mostly wild cat that adopted her. Mom has been the only one
who has been able to pet this cat for the most part. Cat became pregnant
(mom could not catch her before she went into heat), and just had her
kittens on Friday night. She is now letting my mom and me pet her and take
care of her. She is in the garage with them as she won't allow anyone to
pick her up and move her inside. Mom has had cats that have had kittens so
this whole thing is not new to her. But this kitty is quite young herself
and she does not seem to know what to do with them. She stay with them all
the time which is great, and they are nursing constantly and she is very
good about that. But she will not come out of the cage to eat herself for
the most part. Mom has been holding the plate of food up to her while she
is laying with the kittens so she will eat. She does not seem to be
grooming, licking whatever you want to call it at all. She seems very
protective of them and will wrap around them as best she can at times, but
will let mom pick them up and all. Me too. But she does not clean them.
She has not rejected them at all, and like I said lets them nurse all the
time and stays with them. She has been out to potty herself some, and she
has been out once or twice to eat dry food. This is so different from all
the other cats we've had. They all cleaned their kittens, or at least
licked them. Could this be because she is a wild cat herself and does not
know what to do? She is the first wild kitty mom has had. Mom is calling
the vet tomorrow but thought I'd ask her too. Thank you. Oh and as soon as
she can this kitty is going in to get spayed!

She MUST be doing something (stimulating them to defecate) or the kittens
would already be dead or showing signs of being in distress.

If you really think she isn't doing the job, you need to take her and the
kittens to a Vet.
