I was thinking of visiting Yosemite in late may or early june. Last
time I was in Yosemite I stayed at Camp 4 and like it quite a bit. I
didn't have any trouble getting in then, but it was late October. I
was wondering how hard it is to get in at what is presumably a more
popular time of year.

Also I have a question about groceries in Yosemite. The website says
you can buy them there, and since I'd be going by bus I can't
necessarily bring everything with me that conveniently. Is the
selection halfway decent, and how badly overpriced is it?

Selection is fairly good considering. Prices are a bit high but
not impossible.

The Village Store (located in Yosemite Village) has a decent selection
of food stuff. The price of groceries actually aren't that bad (just a
bit more expensive than the big supermarket chains) but cheaper than mom
and pop grocery stores or 24-hour convenience stores.

In regards to Camp 4, it will be a lot harder to get a space in late May
and early June than it was in late October. Put it's still possible if
you are willing to wait in line very early in the morning for any
available space. Later in the summer (June or August) you might have an
easier time trying to get a camp site in one of the campgrounds located
off Tioga Road in the high country. (Unfortunately, in most years those
Tioga Road campgrounds don't open up until July (or late June at the
earliest).

I've seen Camp 4 almost deserted a couple of times - Dec 2005 and Feb
2007. For the latter is was unseasonably warm (some rain) with
overnight lows in the mid 40's. I think I saw maybe two tents before
I headed for the Upper Yosemite Fall Trail (before chickening out
about halfway up). In 2007 there was snow on the ground, but I met a
group of college kids (who were staying at Camp 4) going up the Upper
Yosemite Fall Trail. They only had 3-season tents, and said that they
were simply wearing lots of clothes in their sleeping bags.

You'll probably have an easier time if you wait at Camp 4 on a weekday
morning looking for people who are leaving. I hear it gets far more
difficult on a Friday or Saturday morning.

There are several places you can get groceries. The Village Store is
about 1/3 gift shop and 2/3 neighborhood market. It's not the size of
a supermarket, but it's decently sized with a limited amount of
produce. Prices aren't bad considering the additional cost of
shipping to a remote location. The Yosemite Lodge gift shop has a
limited options, but usually energy bars, beverages, and the like.
The Curry Village General Store isn't bad, and you might just stop
there if you take a shower there.

Basically Curry Village and Housekeeping Camp are the only areas with
publicly accessible showers. When I was there last summer for a
backpacking trip, I went to the Curry Village front desk and paid $3
to take a shower (at their guest shower facilities) before I started
my trip. When I got back I went to the front desk again, but that
time the clerk refused to accept my payment and told me just go. It's
pretty much on the honor system, as there's nobody asking to see your
guest card/key/etc and I didn't get a receipt when I paid for my
shower.
