For those in the NYC area and historically-inclined, The Elegant Arts
Society offers a workshop on the 1910's Hesitation Waltz, covering
primarily variations from a 1914 dance manual by Albert Newman as well
as short sequences such as the "Aeroplane Waltz" and "Pompadour
Waltz". Previous late 19th/early 20th century waltz experience is
helpful but not required. No partner is needed but gender balance is
not guaranteed.
The class will be held at Actors Movement Studio, 302 W. 37th Street,
6th floor, from 4:30 to 6:30pm. The cost is $12 per person at the
door, or $10 in advance via check to The Elegant Arts Society, P.O.
Box 8997, New Haven, CT 06532; or via Paypal to
paypal@elegantarts.org. In either case, please specify that you are
paying for the June Hesitation Waltz class. Advance payments must be
received by Friday, June 4th.
This is the first of four summer "sampler" classes, which will
continue with:
July 11 - "Sweetness and Fury" - Italian Renaissance Court Dances from
1581
August 8 - The "Valencia", a 1926 choreography
September 12 - 1890s Waltz Variations from Gilbert's "Round Dancing"
All classes are taught by Susan de Guardiola. More information may be
found on our website, specifically on this page:
http://www.elegantarts.org/vintageclasses.html
If you have further questions please email nyc@elegantarts.org. Note
that for those with stamina, we also continue our regular monthly
Regency classes, also first Sundays, from 1:00-4:00pm; a number of
people do take both classes. Information on these may likewise be
found on our website, www.elegantarts.org, and is usually posted to
this group as well.
Happy dancing!
