Hi everyone,
I am a 37 year old who is trying to track down a book I read when I
was in elementary between the 4th and 6th grades. The story centered
aroung a small blind boy who was neglected at home. He would be taken
for walks and pulled along roughly by his hand, he only played in a
small corner of his room and had food rapidly shoveled in his mouth
during feedings. Eventually, he's taken to a new home where he is
treated much better and even learns braille. Does this story ring a
bell to anyone? I know it is a long shot but I would really like to
find out the title of the book. Thanks for any help.

I didn't recognize this book, but I copied and pasted your query over on
BookSleuth.

Nothing definite, but a few possibilities were posted:

"Stevie's Other Eyes, by Lois Eddy McDonnell, published Friendship Press 1962
This book illustrates the challenges of a blind child in starting school,
reading braille, writing a letter, swimming etc.

Second Sight for Tommy, by Regina J. Woody, Westminster 1972. 16 yr old Kim
gets a job outside the Children's Center where she has lived, and it involves
helping to care for a newly blinded 9 yr old boy. Kim begins to teach him to
get around his parent's Inn and yard by himself, but the parents are too
protective

I'm also reminded of The Chimneys of Green Knowe (US title Treasure of Green
Knowe) where Susan's blindness restricts her and her nurse and grandmother keep
her from touching things to learn her way about. She doesn't go away, though,
but is helped by Jacob and by her teacher - no braille, but carved letters."

Could it be one of these?

Let us know!
