I'm looking for the name of a book published, I think, in the 60s. The
reading level is approximately grade 2, and the story concerns a world
in outer space where the dogs wear clothes and human beings serve as
their pets. Apparently the story had New Yorker-style illustrations. A
friend has fond memories of this story and just cannot track it down.
Any thoughts? |

I didn't recognize this book, but I copied and pasted your query over on
BookSleuth.
Here's the reply you received:
"This one might be a bit too 'old' and I don't know about the illustrations -
Herbert's Space Trip, by Hazel Wilson, illustrated by Kurt Werth, published New
York, Knopf, 1965 "the fifth fabulously funny tale about that fabulously funny
boy, takes him to a planet run by canny canines. Ages 8-12" (Horn Book Oct/65
p.544 pub ad) A picture of the cover (from another source) shows a boy crawling
out of a barrel-like spaceship section? watched by a hound dog, with two other
boys standing behind."
Might it be this book? Let us know!
