Hello all -
I was wondering if someone could settle a little bet. I was wondering
what
the first >ever< anime was. There was a show on a little while ago that
said that, naturally, Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom) was the first, but after
doing a little digging, I discovered that there was one that was 2 years
prior to that called Instant History. Can someone please settle this
little
discussion?
According to the "Early Anime" entry in _The Anime Encyclopedia_ [1], the
very first piece of Japanese animation was "'Mukuzo Imokawa the Doorman'
(1917, 'Imokawa Mukuzo Genkanban no Maki')", "a five-minute short by Oten
Shimokawa".
