If it does, it doesn't look good for Kelsey Grammer's middling new
sitcom.
"It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown"
8PM (ET/PT)
ABC
"The Peanuts gang eagerly anticipate the coming Halloween, especially
Linus who takes up his annual vigil for The Great Pumpkin." |

How many centuries ago was that made? ;-)
TV stations are rather hopeless at trotting out the same old rubbish year
after year.
Now that's what I'm talking about. What's the point? For perpetual
nostalgia sake? Pffft... please. EVERY Peanuts holiday episode
(Halloween, Christmas, Easter) can just be _dumped_ on cable if you
want to watch it bad enough. |

They're running it again. And NBC is running a "Monsters vs. Aliens"
special twice in a row tonight.

You say rubbish, most say "classic".
There's always a new generation of kids, and they still laugh at the
"old rubbish". So Charlie Brown, Rudolph, Frosty, et al will be with us
forever.
New stuff gets added, too. Monsters vs. Aliens is airing opposite
Charlie Brown.

Yeah? Get back to me when they start airing "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi"
( http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0175122/ ) again...

Some of the shows are "classic", some of them are rubbish ... but playing
them year after year is simply lazy and stupid (and no doubt cheap). It's a
bit like here in New Zealand where we seem to have The Simpsons on near
continuous loop, and every episode must have been played about 50 times
already ... and when they do finally stop playing that, we get the 80th
re-run of Home Improvement or Friends instead. |

Irrelevant.

Yeah, except that "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." is not lame
or rubbish. It's a classic. What are you going to complain about next,
"Dracula" (1931 or 1958) or "Halloween" (1978) at Halloween, "The
Waltons" - "The Homecoming: A Christmas Story," "National Lampoon's
Christmas Vacation," "It's a Wonderful Life," "A Christmas Carol" (many
versions) and "A Christmas Story" between Thanksgiving and Christmas?
Sheesh, it's tradition.

Being a "tradition" doesn't stop it being mindless drivel. Many "traditions"
are best left in the past. :-)
Most, if not all, of your list above is rubbish *in my opinion*, but some
other people will no doubt love it ... as the saying goes: "One's man's
trash is another man's treasure."
The point was, replaying these things every year means they lose any of the
(supposed) significance they had. TV stations should get some brain cells
and play them only every few years instead.
The real reason most of the holiday season's schedule is filled with rubbish
and / or re-runs is because the TV stations believe very few people are
actually watching, but are instead busy with family events, travelling, etc. |

I got the distinct impression that the "Monsters vs. Aliens" special
was an extended infomercial for the DVD, especially after the exact
same special twice in a row.

They don't run Bing Crosby "A Very Bingy Christmas" specials any more.
Then again, they run that crap like 'Miracle On 34th Street' and even
modern fare like 'Home Alone' like clockwork. |
