Batting Problems Remain...

Pakistan's bowling has started to work but the abtting problems
remain. Even in the win against NZ the batting was not convincing.
Shahzaib hit more often high than long and was quite a bit lucky to
have survived as long as he did. The order was tampered with and
tampered with again in the game against Ireland. Fawad Alam again did
not get much batting practice. It would have been nice to have Nazir
and Yousuf there to provide both explosive starts and solid aggressive
batting. Most of the other batsmen have not fired either. Its hard to
see this line up be consistently good. One can only hope their one
good batting performance comes along when they need it.

For now to get to where they are they have defeated one of the top
eight teams and lost to two of them.

All that will be compensated for if they beat South Africa. For unless
NZ thrash SL and Ind thrash RSA, that is whom they'll be playing in
the semis.

On the other hand SL have defeated 3 big teams, lost to none thus far
and are yet on the brink of elimination. There is something seriously
wrong with a format where you win the first 4 of your 5 league games
and still have no guarantee of a place in the semis.

I got that wrong. Pak plays RSA only if SL beats NZ or NZ thrash SL. A
narrow win for NZ means that Pak will top the group and play WI. All
assuming that Ind don't thrash RSA.
