This weekend I acquired a very nice silver hinged bangle bracelet. It is
marked with a lion (passant) and a 'Y' year date. So what happened to the
city and the markers marks? Under what circumstances would they be
omitted?
Thanks
Janice

Possibly worn off ? Something as big as a bangle should have them all,
but silver items under 7.78 grams
do not require a hallmark. Do you have a linkk for an image of the marks/

Janice,

There is a very helpful site where you can receive free appraisals and
comments and in return give your comments to other people's questions
and appraisal requests. It's completely free:

Instappraisal
http://www.instappraisal.com

Hope this help,

- Joseph

In your zeal to spam your own site, you missed the
point of her question.

You do get one point, though, for not saying "I just
FOUND this very helpful site....."

No zeal or spam here. The lady was asking about her hallmark and the
site has a ton of information about hallmarks - many people post their
hallmark photos and get answers as to the manufacturer, date
manufactured, etc.. Also, the site used to have the largest hallmark
database in the world for silver, but has consolidated into an
appraisal database going back more than ten year. Just trying to
help. If I wanted to SPAM and be secretive I wouldn't have used my
real name and email address!

Enjoy,
Joseph

I tried to get a photo but couldn't come up with anything usable. Thanks
for directing me to the Silvermine site! I found a match with Birmingham
1974. But its not a case of wear- the other marks just aren't there. This
little bracelet is a bit of a mystery, anyway. On the other flange of the
bracelet was some sort inscription- that has been polished into oblivion.
Thanks for the help!
Janice
