No, they're not. Stylistically, they're similar; and both pretty
funny.

Thunk has pretty much said it. I noticed that the first phrase of the
verse of the one of them is the same as the first phrase of the chorus
of the other. Aside from that, they are both in 3/4 (waltz like) they
have somewhat similar but not exact melidic shapes, the harmony is
chosen from the same basic secondary dominants and the melodic range
it about the same and if I remember correctly, they are in the same
key. This could almost be said of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" or at
least a couple of hundred other tunes that share some of these same
characteristics.
I will, however, confide in you that I find it difficult to hear the
differences also. All of these types of formula songs use so much of
the same shapes, motives and changes that unless I would have a real
interest in the words I would not remember which melody went with the
words of which song. I haven't checked it in this manner, but I would
not be surprised if you could sing the words of one with the music of
the other and if it did not come out exact, you could probably ad lib
to make it fit. (I am not sure that he did not do this as well!

You can't One song starts on V, one starts on I. Very basic difference.
The point of these novelty songs is not the music. It's the words and the
personality. |
