BBC Commentary just before:

Lineker says that he's writing off Germany, and Schmeichel replied,
"You're a brave man then."

Just as a side note to Buzinas was saying about the Estadio do Dragão
and every side who has worn BLUE AND WHITE has always won there:

Neither Germany nor Holland are wearing blue or white, duh. Wink

Pacey, and tactically interesting start to the match, which has slowed
down in the last minute or so.

First chance, just missed Ruud's outstretched boot in the 4th minute
played, and Stam has been magnificent in defence, clearing two
possibly dangerous German runs.

Kuranyi, hmm.

Overheard on BBC comms, after a rough Frings tackle:

"Don't know what Frings was doing with his arms around Van der Saart,
just then"

"Just being friendly, John."

Quickie MR: WOW! The match was definitely brewing, but this goal came
out of no where: Cocu had complained about Lahm not receiving a yellow
card for a handball to Anders Frisk, and lo-and-behold, a few minutes
later, Lahm is fouled by Cocu, who then gives up a free-kick to
Frings, which CURLS wickedly straight into the goal off the far
post!!!! I think! Or did someone get a touch on it? Schneider maybe?
Who knows! DEUTSCHLAND! For my mother, yay! ...although I am cheering
on Holland who I tipped to win. *G*

It looked like it glanced off someone's head, but not sure who.

Yep, it came out of nowhere - but why does Frings get credit? I thought
Schneider was the one the ball came off...

Zum sieg, Nederlander.

It's halftime, what changes do you make if you're the dutch?

Can't believe this is a Germany-Holland match, the quality is so low. The
Dutch defence is a joke, Germany could have scored two or three more from
crosses. In attack they completely lack any spark or pace - wtf is Zenden
playing for? Cocu? Advocaat............. sheesh - next thing he'll bring on
the De Boer sisters. In Scotland we found it hilarious that such a useless
coach (thrown out of Rangers) was re-appointed to the national team.

Having said all that, Germany aren't much good either - but we knew that
before the match.

ps rofl - just checked, Frank De Boer is on the bench! This is a guy who
wasn't good enough to face lower level Scottish league teams.

Wasn't it him whoonce said, "Football is a simple game. 22 men kick a ball
around for 90 minutes and then Germany wins" ?

Well Andrew, I don't have such a bad opinion of the match or quality
of the teams playing as what you have, apparently.

I'm not claiming this is first-class football, mind you. Just that
Germany have impressed a lot, more than what I expected.

At one point, I even hyperboled on #ecrss: "Germany look like the
Germany of old!". A bit much, but that was my impression after Lahm
especially was giving a show out there, as the Brazilians say.

Having said that, ugh, Holland. Not what I expected at all.

BTW, factoid: Oliver Kahn is exactly 35 y.o. today. ;)

He said without a trace of irony as Germans everywhere giggle themselves
silly.
