Just curious if anybody knows why Sugar Ray leonard ducked Pryor? IMO, Pryor
would have taken Leonard in a close fight.

How do you guys think Pryor would have stacked up against: Shane Mosley, Floyd
Mayweather Jr., Oscar De La Hoya, and Pernell Whitaker?

Whitaker and Pryor could have gone either way (and though they are two
of my favorite fighters, I would be cheering for Aaron). Pryor would
beat the others though. Another good one would been Pryor V. Roberto
Duran at lightweight.

There was talk of the two fighting. I think Leonard's eye injury stopped their

respective careers reaching a logical confluence.

Against Mosley, Mayweather Jr. and ODLH, I like Pryor to outhustle, sometimes

bully and beat all three. I think Whitaker at his best is a shade better than
Pryor.

Leonard didn't duck Pryor. The fight might have taken place in late
1982 if Leonard hadn't suffered his eye injury. I can't see Pryor beating
Leonard at welterweight. Aaron was too small.

He didn't duck Pryor. The timing for a fight with Pryor never was right.
Pryor's commercial best came after be beat Alexis and basically ended
shortly thereafter.

At 140 pounds Pryor would have crushed Mosely...probably blown Floyd out
quickly...he and Oscar as well as Pernell would have been incredible fights.
Aaron Pryor at 140 maybe has no equal. Possibly prime Chavez was
better..hard to say....but he was amazing. I don't think I ever rooted for
him in a fight. Now looking back he is one of my favorites.

At welterweight Leonard would have beaten Pryor. Arguello gave pryor a tough
fight though Pryor ended up beating arguello up. Think of a bigger and faster
and more skilled fighter, i think pryor would be in trouble. I doubt leonard
ducked pryor, leonard fought a lot of tough fighters, you want ducking, look at
bernard hopkins.

In an eariler thread I had Pryor as maybe the best of class here and see no

reason to change my mind. As for this field, it really depends upon the
night and the weight. All these guys are great, but I think Pryor has the
edge overall - not that if by some magic he could have fought all at all the
weights they fought he would have beaten all every time - nobody does that,
but I think he would have won 70% of the time.

From reading about Pryor and watching a couple of his fights, I think he would
have beaten: Oscar De La Hoya and Shane Mosley, but I'm not sure if he would
beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Pernell Whitaker.

Mayweather has a better chin than Mosley and De La Hoya, and his quick hands
would have thrown off Pryor a bit.

Whitaker had the defense and footwork to slightly edge Pryor on points.

Pryor was a special fighter from I have seen, and would have loved to see him
fight a prime Whitaker and Mayweather Jr.

I think when it's all said and done though, Floyd Mayweather Jr. will have a
better career than Aaron Pryor. His level of oppostion is already right there
with "The Hawk"

Watch the HBO Legendary Night Series on "Pryor-Arguello" Pryor went up to the
press stage and asked Leonard for a fight.

According to HBO, Leonard never gave Pryor a much deserved chance.

I think the timing of Leonard's detatched retina 86'd the possibility of that

fight. Everyone was asking for a piece of Ray Leonard and the accompanying
payday.

Not sure where you make the judgement on Mayweather vs. Mosley's chins. Except

that Mosley's got dented a bit against Forrest. Mayweather has succeeded by
avoiding being hit like Mosley was in the first Forrest fight.

Quote:

And Whitaker was deceptively physically strong. Pryor would not have had that

advantage as most would assume. Whitaker was a little faster, better
defensively and could not be bullied. Bad combination for a Pryor win to occur.

Pryor short circuted his career when he had just reached the pinnacle. If Floyd

avoids the same, you're probably correct.

Agreed.

Agreed. Pryor was not hard to hit. He was resilient and persistent though.
Do you remember Aaron's fight with Dujuan Johnson? Wow! What an incredible
fight that rarely gets any mention. It was one of the most exciting fights
I ever saw. Pryor was down at least once (maybe twice) in that bout and
stunned several times IIRC. Johnson was murdered not that long after their
fight, IIRC.

That would be a perspective very favorable to Pryor.
