Robert Weede is virtually forgotten, but had a truly wonderful
baritone voice. I just found a fairly early (1940) example of his
singing the Pagliacci Prologue. It's wonderful, musical, and sung with
an open and easy sound that I find to be excellent. His high Ab, the
woe of many baritones, is huge and easy and beautiful, and this is one
of the best versions I have heard of this aria. He belongs in the list
of great American baritones near the top of the list.
