I played 18 with my good friend Joe. We play for really heavy stakes,
like the loser buys a beer afterwards.
We halved #1 with bogey. On #2 my approach was close to pin high but
off in the right short fringe. I rolled in about a 20' putt for bird.
On #3 my approach shot was long, I played a 7 iron chip and run which
ran right into the hole for bird #2. Our 4th is a long par 4 with water
in front and simply can't hit the ball far enough to carry a second shot
over the water so I do the sensible thing and lay up hoping that I can
get a wedge close enough for a 1 putt par or 2 putt bogey at worst. I
holed about a 60 yard sand wedge for bird #3. Then I went back to my
usual game of more bogies than pars.
HOWEVER, the back side was a different story. Holes 10 - 12 have par of
3-4-3. I played them 3-5-3, not too bad except that Joe played them
2-3-1! He almost landed his tee ball in the hole on the fly on #12, it
hit about a foot away and hopped in.
I won the front side, he won the back side, we halved the 18 so we both
bought beers. I love days like that. |

Wow the stars were all lined up for that round! Was it Joe's 1st?

I was Joe's 7th ace. He said he got his first one in 1985.
Holy crap!!! That dude is seriously dead to me and pisses me off.
Stop focusing on the HIO's and they will come.
I don't focus on them. In fact, the thought of making an ace NEVER
enters my head prior to hitting a shot during a round. Only if I hit
a ball at the pin and it could have a chance do I even think about it.
I am waiting for the day when you get an HIO of your own. I lipped one
last weekend with the 22 rescue. I thought it was in until I got near
the green and saw it tucked a couple of inches behind the flagstick.
It's funny but one of the first things that went though my head was
crowing about it here and getting one of your patented "you are dead to
me" replies. |
