1 vote for YES;
Theres an FA Cup contested by all the teams in the land, not just the teams
in the four highest divisions, no teams bar Chelsea have taken it seriously
this season. Though I can say that a lot of teams tried hard.......
Outside of tradition, could someone point out why its still contested? |

It should never have been contested. At least the EPL teams should
give it a wide berth as they're not even in the bloody League to
contest in the "League Cup". |

The Carling Cup gives clubs the chance to play their reserves who
are in desperate need of competitive matches. |

I am not sure. Presumably to give added revenues and excitement to lower
league teams by giving them a better chance of some games against top
teams than they have in the FA cup.
Does anyone have any idea how much revenue, on average, a Championship,
League 1, or League 2 team would make out of the carling cup ?
I don't see what harm the competition does - teams like Arsenal and Man
United can afford to play younger players who otherwise see little
action and still win more often than not, so it does not add to the
burden of games on their regular starters. Mid table teams aren't
playing in Europe or (generally) getting far in the FA cup, so they
don't have a fixture problem to the same extent.
The Carling Cup provides much needed revenues to a lot of smaller
clubs plus it gives the larger clubs additional competitive matches
for their reserves and youth players. |
