2nd fave is John Collins v Mark Holmes. It was
a one-round k/o for the good guy. Don't have it. |

That was a dandy and I've got it on tape but not DVD (yet). I think the best
fight that I've seen however and keep watching it often is Foreman/Ali. That
was such an upset.
But Hagler/Hearns I lost on that one and still have a bad feeling about it
yet it certainly was one with a lot of action...

I don't have just 1 favorite. The ones I recall that I liked the best
were, in no particular order,
Arguello vs Pryor - both meetings - I was a huge Arguello fan and
hated to see him get beat but these were two excellent bouts.
Though he never won a belt, he was a great Olympic boxer and a joy to
watch in the ring. Howard Davis Jr vs Jim Watt. Watt won by UD by
what I perceived to be a home town call. Still, a great fight. Howard
also had an epic battle against Meldric Taylor, another great Olympic
boxer, in which he got a draw.
The first fight between Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns ranks up
there in my top favorites.
The first Ali vs Liston fight. Even though Ali had already won 18 or
19 fights before this one, it was this fight that put him solidly on
the world stage and he showed that a heavyweight could dance and box
and not just be a plodder.
I don't have any of these on any medium other than what's stored in
the brain cells.

The second was better IMO. Heavier. History. Build up. And, for sure,
Hearns was robbed :-;
Two superb boxers that the world new about.

For me there so many bouts that traverse - nice word, eh? - my
memories.
I have always held admiration for fighters who were honest, in the
best condition, faced their opponent and plied all the skills and
techniques. As one of the old lines in the gym goes: "I ain't to
lose."
Of the fighters I felt had good futures, I saw too many put up against
expereiced journeymen at a far too early stage in their young careers
One of those I admired was Hayes Edward "Big Ed" Sanders who won the
gold medal in the heavyweight devision of the 1952 Olympics. The man
was good, skilled, great personality, intelligent and from a very
respected successful family in Watts . . . just a few streets over
from his place. He had just turned pro and too many were pushing him
up the ladder.

Mancini Bramble 1 because I did not like the over hyped, overrated, tv
darling Mancini and was waiting for him to lose. He got an undeserved
title shot against a crap champion in Frias, or the guy would have
never been champion in the first place. It was wonderful to see this
guy get exposed by an average fighter. |
