I have been noting each day that I see a hummingbird trying to get an
idea of the last ones through. For the last week or so I would see
one late in the afternoon at one of the feeders. I am assuming that
it is a bird that has flown all day and is stopping here to refuel and
rest up to continue the journey the next day. Yesterday, to my
surprise, I notice two hummers here when I got up in the morning.
They stayed most of the day.

Yesterday, I took down one of my small platform feeders and cleaned it
and put it back out but in a different place. Late in the afternoon
one of the regulars, a Mourning Dove, showed up. she landed on the
empty shepherds crook and sat there trying to find it. she kept
turning her head and looking down. At one point she even turned
around and tried to find it from a different angle. I watched her for
a good 5 minutes before I had to go answer the phone. I have no idea
how long she sat there and if she ever saw it across the yard. I'll
watch for her today.
