Any good firearms/optics sellers that ship...

I'm looking at upgrading my optics, but local retailers (while being
great for firearms and ammo) can gouge on optics.

So I'm looking for advice on decent companys that will ship
internationally. (It's quite annoying that every US-based company I
have checked so far wont ship outside the US border!) I've found some
Brits and Europeans who will ship outside their borders, but have no
idea about their reliabilty.

All ears.

There appears to be restrictions on exporting optical sights but I can't
find a good definition of the term. One vender has this warning on their web
site: http://www.tacticalmarket.com/footer/8/Export+Information.aspx but
does not define the restricted items any better than " night vision
equipment and optical sighting equipment. ".

The reason being that firearms optics are considered "Munitions" under
fairly recent U.S. export regs and some scopes, if not all, have to
have State Department OK before being exported. Can't blame the
companies for not wanting to get stuck in the paperwork meatgrinder
for as little profit as they get off the internet sites. So if the
locals are gouging on U.S.-branded optics, it's probably because of
the paperwork overhead. The penalties can be fairly severe. Was just
reading about somebody that sent some EoTech scopes to some soft-air
enthusiasts in Japan, went to jail over it when Customs caught the
shipment. Have you checked with www.binoculars.com? Don't know if
they ship to Canada, but you could check.

#Hey man

RON L here - SERE SURPLUS

I'm sorry that your running into so many problems with Optics but
here inthe States the State Department wants us to limit and watch our
sales of ANY EQUIPTMENT to OVERSEA's! Lots of Brit as well as US
Equiptment showing up in Afganistan as well as Iraq and being used to
kill our own troops! I know that sucks on your end, but you have to
see it from our Prespective? plus, Most UK sources who will sell
should BE OK and good luck to you!

Hi there Misanthropic Curmudgeon!!
Getting optics shipped from the US is, as others have pointed out, not easy.
However, may I point out to you that when WWII ended, the Soviets shipped the
entire Zeiss (or some such similar) factory and personnel to Russia where they
have been busily making very dern fine optics for the Soviets, and now for the
Russians. Their optics are equal to the best available from Japan, China, or
Europe, and their high-end spotting scopes and astronomical scopes are very very
fine.
I offer you a contact enterprise, located in the US, that might be able and
willing to point you toward a source outside the US that might ship to you at
your current location (wherever that happens to be). Go here:
http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/
and look around, then send them an email. I have examined their 6x rifle scope
and it is excellent.
Good luck in your efforts, and if you succeed through this advise, I'd like to
hear of your success and your opinion of the optics.
Best regards
John

I've had an email exchange with them, and they will send Down Under.
Their suggestion based on my optical requirements were:
4-16x50 Veber scope http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/detail.aspx?ID=617
10x50 Kronos binos http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/detail.aspx?ID=20

I'm just checking with the local coppers to see about importing: they
have an exhaustive list on firearms they are OK with, but nothing I
could find on their website about optics

Do you have a link to the list? IIRC if it isn't on the list you can't bring
it into the country.

Sure. A list of the firearms approved to import here can be found at:
http://www.police.govt.nz/service/firearms/approved.html

Nothing about scopes.

I got an email back from the coppers, saying 'go an see you local arms
officer', so I guess it is a trudging to the cop-shop I go.
