The reason you don't see the red belly of a Red-bellied woodpecker is
that you don't often see the woodpecker's belly!

What am I seeing when it is hanging from the side of the platform, or
from the bell-rope. Or the Black-Oil Seed feeder?

(Not trying to be argumentative--for me not much effort is required. But
it does seem to me that I have seen most of the underside from stem to
stern at one time or another. I have seen a "pinkish" cast on occasion,
but never a "red belly" like I have a "red head" (on lots of stuff but
not the Woodpecker of that name).)

I guess we would need to bird using a shotgun like James J. did then

maybe the red belly could be seen--I do not recommend it thought. :)

Maybe we could see the Ruby crown too. :)

I've never seen anything I'd call red on the belly of a red-belly. At
most maybe a little orangish tint, nowhere near as intense as the red
on their heads. It should have been called the red-crowned woodpecker
or something of the sort.
