So on random, we are talkign about two deaths a year.
With three in Detori and one in Baltimore this month
is above odds.

It's not possible to determine that without getting a handle
on variability.

Ken, those strange numbers are dates and they refer to the Decrees of
the Ministry (D.M.) that regulate competitive (28/02/83) and non
competitive (18/02/82) activity).

That may be the position under law but there is nothing to stop the RD
producing his own custom medical form.

Doesn't this set the RD up for major law suits, assuming one is
allowed to bring legal action?

I'm not convinced that rare heart conditions such as LQTS would be
diagnosed by medical tests, but if you think differently perhaps you
would care to amplify.

I'm more interested in what medical issues are unveiled, running
related or not, with this yearly physical. The ludicrous medical
system we have in the good old USA damn near discourages preventative
medicine. We not only need a some universal coverage but coverage that
encourages preventative and stops treating general practitioners Ugly
Betty.

Who knows finding problems when it tcosts a few hundred to fix rather
a few thousand might pay for most of it. And then, to tie it back to
running, who knows, we may have a few less croaking on a race
course.

In France, however, the medical certificate, is quite race specific,
though I think I recall Steve Common saying there is some way round
this.

I don't know anything about the French legal system, it is not
immediately obvious to me that it would invite law suits.

I've also raced in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Spain and Malta, none of
which require any medical forms..

I'm aware of some debate about American health system though not
followed it. When I've mentioned to Americans that I retired at age 50
they seemed to suggest that would be difficult in the USA because of
health insurance - implying that it is paid by the companies that employ
them. If you develop a good system, just remember you may need a lot of
barbed wire at the borders to discourage health migrants.

It's more ironic than sad.

All three probably thought running would be good for their general
health.
